Who loves apples? Who loves pastry? If you said yes to both then you're in the right place, as this delicious Apple Jalousie is just what you need in your life! A super combo of both a fluffy and delicate pastry combined with sweet and soft apples, what more could you want? Although, it does take a while to make, if you have some time on your hands, be sure to try out this recipe! As for some tips: the recipe calls for 2-1/2 lbs (1kg) of apples, which you do need the whole amount of to make it just right, for me this ended up being 8 average size gala apples, which I peeled, cored, and diced.
One of the best parts about this recipe is that it uses common house hold ingredients, with the exception of superfine sugar, also known as "caster sugar", and the 2-1/2 lbs of apples (which not many people tend to keep around, however, I always have a lot of apples lying around the house, and thought that this would be a great way to use them up :)). Another thing that you'll need is a fair amount of counter space, as you will need to roll out the dough it a long rectangular shape 3-4 times, during the process of rolling, folding, and turning out the dough. Additionally, you'll need a fairly large fridge to fit a baking tray into it for chilling the dough multiple times, which is a very crucial step.
As for an extra tip: try using 1/2-1/4 tsp of salt for the dough, rather than the recommended 1tsp, as the dough might be a bit on the saltier side otherwise :) One thing to remember while making this recipe is to have lots of patience and time management skills. A timer is perfect for this, so that you won't have to stand around the entire time. Also for the extra 2tbsp of sugar sprinkled on top near the end, I would recommend using 1tbsp of the superfine sugar (caster sugar) and then 1tbsp of regular sugar, to even out the proportions.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed making this recipe, especially on the weekends, when it's time for a challenge. I hoped that you enjoyed this article, as much as I had baking the Apple Jalousie, and have an awesome weekend :) P.S. Let me know in the comments what you thought and what you'd like to see next :)
