Homemade Dun Daan Dessert!

Happy Belated Chinese New Year! So in celebration of Chinese New Year, I decided to make a classic Chinese dessert called Dun Daan, which is basically like a pudding texture where you can add evaporated milk on top that tastes amazing! The best part about this recipe is that it only uses 4 ingredients!! How amazing is that? And it takes only around 10-12 min to make in total! So the only differences that I did when making this recipe, which turned out really well by the way, was to use 2 1/2tbsps of sugar, which is all up to your own opinion, as well as steaming the dun daan for 11min rather than 7min, as it was still liquidy for me around the 7min mark. As for recommendations and tips? Well, I'll just tell you some of the clarifications of the recipe to help you out in making your very own homemade Dun Daan! For the heatproof/steamable bowl, I used basically a fairly basic porcelain bowl and since the mixture was a fairly small amount, i used a medium to small sized bowl. If you would like to make the dun daan into two portions feel free to use two bowls to steam to accomplish two servings. As for the saran wrap I put it over the top of the bowl completely covered as recommended per the recipe, which helps to ensure that the steam/water vapour doesn't come inside of the bowl. Also for the steaming process, in case you haven't steamed anything on the stove before, you can get a large pot and fill it with water and then put in a stand that's usually made out of metal that you can put your bowl of dun daan onto. Once the water has boiled at a level of around 6 on the stove, then you can place your dun daan using oven mitts into the pot and cover the whole pot with the lid. From there you should use a timer to set at around 7min to check the consistency, and once the liquid has settled it should be jiggly like a jelly but not overly liquidy, sit should have a consistency of almost like a pudding. From there, you should use your oven mitts to take out the dun daan and turn off the stove, and place the dun daan onto a coaster/place mat to cool. You can serve it either warm or cool but I prefer serving it warm :) As for the finishing touches I sprinkled on a mix of goji berries, walnuts, cashews, coconut shavings, and dried cranberries on top of the dun daan to change it up a bit, and it surprisingly added a whole new side to this dessert that I would highly recommend trying out. You could also alternatively eat it plain or add your own toppings that you like to have with dun daan. From there, I used evaporated milk to cover the top of the dun daan in a thin layer to add a bit of creaminess that is to die for! It's delicious this way and I would highly recommend this option even if you don't want the nut and berry mix on top. Overall, this recipe turned out really well, and I hope that you all enjoy your very own dun daan!
