Homemade Grape and Apple Pie!

Lauren Tang

Today I made this delicious Homemade Grape and Apple Pie! I’ll be uploading the step-by-step process on Instagram @bakingwithlauren if you’d like to check it out and for updates about when my new posts are up you can also go to my Facebook page under ‘Baking with Lauren’. I was really happy with how this recipe turned out and how easy it was to make. I ended up rolling out the pie crust dough twice, as I always find the first time breaks in certain areas. As for the filling I used gala apples and a mix of red and green grapes. I also chose to make this in a ceramic pie dish and for baking the crust in the oven I placed down parchment paper and rice to weigh it down. However, I think that weighing beans or beads would be better, as it feels like a waste of rice and I find they’re not quite heavy enough to weigh it down in all the edges. As for making shapes into the pie crust I used cookie cutters and placed the cut outs on top. As for the ice water in the crust, I found out that you just need cold water without the ice. This recipe turned out really well and it was a great use of using up some leftover grapes and apples. For the edges around the pie I pinched them all the way around. As for baking, it was exactly 35min at 375F. Once I took it out of the oven, I was so happy to find out that the crust turned out flaky, buttery, and slightly browned on top but not burned or doughy, something that I don’t find in every pie crust recipe. For the finishing touch I sprinkled some icing sugar on top with a portable sifter container I bought from Winners but you could also find it probably at Marshalls, Homesense, baking/cooking supplies stores, or Michaels. Overall, I hope you enjoyed this review and have fun baking :)
