Today I decided to use up some of the mini apples around the house and make these delicious Apple Kolaches. I had never heard of these before, but when I was looking online for apple desserts, this recipe caught my eye. Fortunately, this recipe turned out amazing and I would highly recommend giving it a try! It was both simple and delicious to make. However, it did require 2 hours to let the dough firm up in the fridge, so keep this in mind. Since I used mini apples, I ended up having to use about 14 of them, but if you are using regular sized apples, I would imagine it'd be about 2 medium sized apples.
One thing that I really liked about this recipe was that it was really easy to roll out the dough and I had no issues with rolling it out! Typically, I find making pastries a bit tiresome and finicky, but this one was super easy to make. In terms of baking, it took 11 min in the oven and I quickly drizzled each one with icing after about 2 min on the cooling rack. The recipe made approximately 40 kolaches and were a beautiful light golden brown. These are the perfect dessert for bite-sized desserts or as a breakfast pastry. Also, once dinner parties and gatherings become more common (since COVID it'll be awhile) then these would be great mini desserts!
Something I found interesting upon looking up how to pronounce kolaches is that there are three different pronunciations! One is "ko-lah-chee" if it's plural as in kolache, the other is 'ko-lash' if it's singular as in kolach. Also, while it is a Czech dessert, it's also become popular in Texas, which is why the pronunciations vary. At least that's what I've found through my research, but if anyone else has any more tips on how to pronounce it, feel free to let me know, as I'd be happy to finally figure it out! I hope you all enjoyed this review and see you next week :)
