Apple Turnovers!

Writer's picture: Lauren TangLauren Tang

Today I decided to make these cute and delicious puffy Apple Turnovers! I was really excited to make these, as they looked amazing and I had to try it. In terms of alterations, I used five gala apples instead of three apples, as it was closer to the recommended weight in grams used in the recipe. I also used two sheets or 1 package of Tastemade's frozen puff pastry.

In order to speed up the thawing process I put them in a bowl in a microwave in 30 second intervals until it started to feel soft and a bit warm. You may end up needing to add a little flour on top to ensure the pastry doesn't get too buttery. Fortunately, this was really easy to roll out and definitely beats making it yourself when you want to make them in a pinch.

Additionally, I sprinkled some sugar on top of each turnover to add a bit of sweetness and crunch. However, if you have coarse sugar at home, this works even better, as the sugar crystals won't melt away and adds another texture. It took 20 minutes to bake in total and made eight turnovers.

As for the icing, I ended up using 1-1/2 tbsps of whipped cream to add to 1/2 cup of icing sugar, as well as a little bit of 2% milk. Since I didn't have whipping cream at home, this still worked out well. If you don't have whipping cream, then you can use 2% milk instead and if you'd like you could also add some vanilla extract for a bit more dimension in terms of flavour.

Overall, this recipe turned out really well and my family loved it! In fact, after making them about half of them are already gone and even after all the apple recipes I've made, this one is their favourite! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this review and have fun baking them :)
