Valentine's Day Heart Sugar Cookies!

Writer's picture: Lauren TangLauren Tang

Happy Valentine's Day! Today I decided to commemorate the holiday with these delicious Valentine's Day Heart Sugar Cookies decorated with a royal icing. These cookie were fairly easy to make and were super cute to top it all off. A few modifications I made include chilling the dough in the fridge overnight, since I was too tired to complete it that night, as decorating takes a lot of energy.

One aspect to be aware of is that you may want to leave the dough on the counter for about 10 minutes before using a cookie cutter to cut out heart shapes. This recipe ended up making 20 regular sized heart cookies, 1 medium heart, and 2 mini hearts. As for baking time it took approximately 12-14 minutes to bake depending on the thickness of your dough. In terms of shape, I ended up re-cutting the cookies once they were out of the oven using the same cookie cutter, as they became a bit mis-shaped in the oven.

As for the royal icing, I decided on 5 different core colours: blue, pink, green, yellow, and purple, as well as a bright pink/red for writing. For the icing, I did end up needing to add a bit more water to the recipe than prescribed, which may be a result of the dryness in the air, so I used approximately 12 tbsps rather than 9-10. Some captions you could use include: BFF, Bestie, Love, Xoxo, Cutie, Hugs, Best, etc. Overall, this recipe was a lot of fun to make and I hope you enjoyed this review. Happy baking :)
